Third Culture Kids – TCK – Event: We’ve been there and done that!
Two experienced adult Third Culture Kids discuss what it means to grow up ‘amongst worlds’ and how belonging everywhere and nowhere has become an integral part of who they are. The term ‘Third Culture Kids’ was coined by American sociologist Ruth Hill Useem and refers to a child who has spent a significant part of their formative years outside their parents’ culture.
Audrey Mezas (born in the Netherlands but raised on 4 different continents) is the owner of Expat in Amsterdam® a relocation company whereby she specializes in guiding expats and their families (often all TCKs) from A to Z, while ensuring they make a ’soft landing’ here in the Netherlands. Audrey is also a parent of a 19 year old daughter and therefore has first hand knowledge of what it’s like to raise a child in the Netherlands.
Elise Adriaansen (born in the Netherlands but raised in 8 different countries) has worked extensively as a Coach with TCKs in her business ‘Coach for Internationals’, where she offers specialized life coaching to TCK teens & young adults seeking clarity on their identity and desired future steps.
Audrey & Elise both have strong ties to the Netherlands and explain what it means for TCK children to grow up in this liberal, direct and innovative environment. How could Dutch culture form a part of who they are and how could it enrich their identity?
Learn not only what it could mean for your children, but also how you can support them at home and help them navigate certain aspects of Dutch culture. Can I keep my children away from things I do not want them exposed to?
During the extensive Q&A you will have the opportunity to receive further expert advice from Audrey & Elise.
We end our evening with a network moment, whereby you get to talk to other parents or ‘parents to be!’
See you on the 22nd of May!
