No plans for the weekend?
Have you already been to Maastricht?
If not, this weekend might be the right time…Maastricht is the capital of the very green and hilly (yes) province of Limburg. Bustling streets, a lively international atmosphere, lots of street cafes, good food, impressive buildings and so much more. From Rotterdam it takes approximately 2 hours by car and 2,5 hours by train to get there. This weekend Maastrichts’ famous Vrijthof square will be transformed into Netherlands’ largest open air restaurant. Until Sunday 25 August Maastricht will be teeming with gastronomes. The name of the event is Preuvenemint and is a combination of the Maastricht words “preuve” (taste) and “evenmint”(event). In short: an event to taste the good things in life.
Please click here if you like to see who is offering their goodies.
And there is also a musical programme, which you can see here
Entrance is free but of course to taste the good things in life you need some money. At Preuvenemint you buy a preuvenecard at one of the cashiers and you load some money on it and then you don’t have to pay with cash.
Celebrate your Christmas days on a grand scale at Magical Maastricht!
A warm atmosphere at Magical Maastricht
Maastricht is well known for its warm atmosphere at any time of the year, but during December it is extra special with Magical Maastricht!
With plenty of Christmas cheer and wintry fun activities, an enchanting holiday mood will fill the city centre’s squares, streets, and courtyards.
Magical Maastricht on the Vrijthof Square
The Vrijthof Square is the place to be for the biggest attractions of Magical Maastricht, such as a huge Ferris wheel, the Alpine-inspired chalet (‘Almhütte’), a huge sheltered ice skating rink and a Christmas market.
The whole square will be transformed into a winter wonderland where you can admire the city skyline from the Ferris wheel, or ride a grand carousel decorated with charming Maastricht scenes.
The Magical Culture Festival
Fans of theatre, dance, music, and expositions will find plenty of cultural gifts at the Magical Culture Festival.
In theatres and cultural institutes as well as in the streets, a variety of fascinating national and international music and interesting expositions will appear.
The Magical Light Route
Follow the Magical Light Route to experience the city’s unique light spectacle. Fantastic chandeliers decorate the squares and shopping centres, and the illuminated St Servaas bridge will delight many a pedestrian.
During the festival, the Onze Lieve Vrouweplein will showcase a breath-taking animated light show with 200 mistletoe-shaped lamps on the trees.
