Exhibition: Fashion Statements @ Amsterdam Museum
Apr 30 – Sep 9 all-day

Tiny waists and (hence) corsets are on show at the Amsterdam Museum where the 18th and 19th century costume collection is given an airing. What are these clothes telling us about the conventions of the time and their effects on the wearers? And are our modern-day equivalents equally restrictive and prescriptive in their own way? A number of designers have taken the costumes as an inspiration and created their own. Fashion Statements is on until September 9

Modern life can be full of stress caused by busy demanding job, challenging relationships, the need to be constantly digitally connected, continuous time-pressure and attempts to juggle so many things at the same time on daily basis, pushing yourself too much and too often, feeling a need to live up to someone’s expectations..
It can easily become too much and stress starts impacting both our mental and physical health. That’s why the busier you are, the more you need to dedicate in time for rest and rejuvenation.
So how to find time to relax and finally rest a bit? And most importantly how to get a great high quality rest instead of ending up drained on a couch, watching series, eating junk comfort food or browsing through your phone?

Rest and The City class recognizes daily struggles of busy urban life. Our 75 minutes class is your space to rest and relax.
We take a holistic approach to rest by targeting parasympathetic nervous system (rest & digest response) with

This is where my passion around the topic of Rest is coming from! I know very well how busy lifestyle and continuous stress impacts physical and mental wellbeing. The busier you get the better-quality rest you need. That’s why I decided to start the Rest and The City and offer a space for others to unplug, relax, rejuvenate and energies.”

Atlantikwall Museum open on Sundays only @ Scheveningen
Sep 15 all-day

The Atlantikwall Museum Scheveningen feature several original German bunkers from the Second World War. The figurehead of the Atlantikwall Museum Scheveningen is the command bunker in the complex Widerstandsnest 318 (Verteidigungsstab Badhuisweg). A man-bunker has also been set up in this complex and a toilet bunker has been made accessible. On regular open days it is possible to visit the command bunker, and there are volunteers ready to provide information and answer questions.

Widerstandsnest 318 Scheveningen
The primary museum location of the foundation is an authentically furnished command bunker of the type 608 (Bataillons-, Abteilungs- oder Regiments-Gefechtsstand). From this bunker and nearby villas in the Second World War the military command of Stützpunkgruppe Scheveningen was conducted by the occupying forces. The bunker is largely original and gives you the unique experience of a tangible past. There are also original historical objects of German, British, Canadian and American forces on display.

Man’s bunker
In the adjacent man-bunker bunker of the type 622 (Doppelgruppenunterstand) on the Badhuisweg there is a ‘time capsule’: one of the two lounges is furnished with exclusively unrestored objects. You get the impression that the bunker has remained untouched since the end of the Second World War. In reality, most bunkers in the Netherlands were looted after the war and stripped of all valuable parts. The other room is an exhibition space for photographs, art and historical objects.

The bunkers on the Badhuisweg are located at numbers 119-133, next to De Boshut coffee house. The museum is accessible by tram line 9. Get off at the Cremerweg stop, from there it is a two minute walk to the bunker. Car is free to park within walking distance of the museum

Entrance is 4 Euro (cash) and 2 Euro for children until 12 years.

The cultural event: ‘Masterly The Hague’ will take place from 19 to 22 September at 4 locations around the Hofvijver. 17th century artworks appear alongside works specially made for the event by contemporary designers, artists and photographers.

Organisers have invited contemporary designers, photographers and artists to select an Old Master as their muse and to draw inspiration for new contemporary design. The works will be exhibited side-by-side in 25 stylised rooms decorated for the occasion. The designers themselves are present and available to the audience. They share their perspective on the historical paintings and invite the audience to see through their eyes. Visitors of Masterly The Hague experience a journey of discovery into beauty and craftsmanship.

Old Masters and new design
Last year Masterly The Hague was held in 3 historic buildings along the Lange Vijverberg. This year it is expanding with an additional location: the once famous former Restaurant Royal located on the stately Lange Voorhout.

Each and every room of the 4 magnificent buildings will be filled with an air of celebration as if we are awaiting a royal ball in another era. We see portraits of princes and princesses, stunningly styled ladies, extravagantly clad gentlemen and opulently laid out tables. Her Royal Highness Princess Margarita de Bourbon de Parme, Hester van Eeghen, Fransje Killaars and many other Dutch designers created sparkling jewels, luxury handbags, gilded leather room dividers and shiny ceramics. All their designs are shown alongside the historical paintings in a fairy tale setting, styled by Maarten Spruyt.

TodaysArt Festival @ Centre of The Hague | The Hague | South Holland | Netherlands

This year the TodaysArt festival take place from 19 to 22 September in The Hague’s city centre. The festival is renowned for its signature programme of electronic music, digital art, media performance and installations.

The 4-day TodaysArt festival takes place on numerous festival stages throughout the city. The full programme includes an extensive line-up of DJ and live sets, concerts, art installation and talks.

What is going to be humanity’s role and relevance in our digital future, and what role will philosophy, ethics, and creativity play? What is our relationship with artificial intelligence? Do we choose nature over technology? And how fine is the line between them, if there is a line at all? These are some of the questions the international festival for art, music and technology TodaysArt aims to answer this together with its artists, audience and speakers.

With this year’s festival theme ‘Consciousness’ TodaysArt leaves the dystopian scenarios on conflict, ‘black boxes’ and artificial intelligence from previous years behind. Instead, the festival focuses on the possibilities of digital technology, on topics like artificial emotions, digital consciousness, machine hallucinations and meditations, and especially humanity in the digital age.

What is Unseen?

Unseen is an annual international photography fair and festival based in Amsterdam, founded in 2012 by Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam, office for cultural business development Platform A, and creative agency Vandejong. Welcoming 53 galleries from across the globe, Unseen focuses on new photography, highlighting the most recent developments by presenting emerging talent and new work by established artists.

As a fair, Unseen brings together leading figures in the industry with artists, curators, collectors and photography enthusiasts, creating an exchange of dialogue, artistic expression and ideas. Complementing the fair, on-site at the historic Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam, is a three-day speakers programme jam-packed with lectures and debates at the Unseen Living Room, as well as a celebration of the printed world of photobooks at the Unseen Book Market.

As a festival, Unseen invites visitors to be challenged, inspired and excited by a programme bringing together many of the city’s leading institutions, galleries, artists and initiatives using photography in unexpected and provocative ways. Every year Unseen Photo Festival takes place in a newly chosen neighbourhood of Amsterdam, in an effort to not only get visitors acquainted with the various areas of the city, but also to get locals – both individuals and businesses – acquainted with the world of contemporary photography.
