Prinsjesfestival 2019
With more than 25 cultural and political activities the Prinsjesfestival celebrates democracy in The Hague from 10 to 17 September (ending on Prinsjesdag).

Prinsjesfestival celebrates democracy, because living in a democracy is a privilege and not self-evident. The festival is organised around Prinsjesdag and adds to the significance of Prinsjesdag.

The festive opening of the 2019 Prinsjesfestival takes place on 12 September with the recitation of the Prince’s Poem.

Other activities include:

Prinsjes Hatwalk and Prinsjes market on the Plein
Prince’s Breakfast at a gigantic table along the entire length of the Hofvijver
performance of political satire in Theater Diligentia
photo expositions of best political moments in the Netherlands
a special children’s programme in the Koninklijke Schouwburg
Open Day at the Dutch Supreme Court
a Prinsjesdag concert by the Residentie Orkest in the Zuiderstrandtheater.
Other special recurring traditions will be a prize for the person who has played an important role in Dutch democracy and a prize for the best political book of the year and a prize for the best political photograph. A huge Prinsjesborrel reception will be organised in the Novotel City Centre on Prinsjesdag for politically-engaged young people.

Focus on Zuid-Holland
Each year a different Dutch province takes centre stage at the Prinsjesfestival. During this 7th edition of the festival, the honour will go to the province of Zuid-Holland. The flag of Zuid-Holland will fly from Nieuwspoort on the Lange Poten, this year’s so-called ‘embassy’, where the province will present itself in terms of food, health and sport.

More info
The Prinsjesfestival is made possible by volunteers and friends who support the celebration of democracy through a diverse programme of activities. Nearly all of the activities are free of charge.

For more information go to prinsjesfestival.nl or the Facebook page of the event.

De grote schijn – Magic in the Kralingse Bos @ Kralingse Bos
Oct 18 – Oct 27 all-day
De grote schijn - Magic in the Kralingse Bos @ Kralingse Bos | Rotterdam | South Holland | Netherlands

A piece of magic, hidden at the edge of the city

The Kralingse Bos in Rotterdam forms the backdrop for a special evening walk during the autumn holidays. As if the forest was filled with real magic, a new surprise waits behind every bush. Trees seem to come to life, mushrooms have been plucked away from a fairy tale and get a luminous glow while running water suddenly changes direction. Nature plays the leading role in this special spectacle with the forest as a natural backdrop.

All the senses are stimulated during this 2 kilometer long walk through the dark. Eyes, ears and noses go on an adventure through light, sound and smells. There are no fairy-tale creatures or evil wizards who produce their magic and thus bring the forest to life, no everything comes from suffisticated technology. Impressive and innovative gadgets provide one mysterious surprise after another, an experience for young and old.
